***A quick correction on the phone number for Gavin Newsom’s office!***

Hey team California!
Unofficial summer is upon us and it’s warming up in California. I’ve got two things to share this week for our golden state. One is an easy call to protect it against disastrous oil spills and the other is for the Central Valley and features amazing activist Delores Huerta.
First, you may or may not remember that ten years ago, a corroded pipeline ruptured, spilling over 450,000 gallons of crude oil into the Pacific Ocean off the Gaviota Coast.
One would hope Governor Newsom would make sure state regulators took a long, hard look before letting a Texas-based oil company restart that same pipeline. But that didn’t happen. Sable Offshore is trying to restart this same dangerous infrastructure without any environmental review, public input, or legal accountability.
They’ve likely broken the law, misled the public with false press releases, done unpermitted work—and been fined a record $18 million for it.
Governor Newsom has the power to stop this. But he’s been silent.
Tell Governor Newsom and his agencies to do the right thing: STOP the restart of the pipeline and demand a full environmental review before it’s too late.

And here’s your chance to support Central Valley Matters and hear directly from Delores Huerta, who has been organizing and fighting for workers rights for decades.
June 5 at 5:30 PDT join the legendary Dolores Huerta and leading California community Organizer, Lydia Avila and hear the stories from the organizers living and working in CD 22, this rural, young, Latino, marginalized district where oil, agriculture, and prisons are the main employers.
Central Valley Matters’ goal is to raise $120,000 for six vetted grassroots organizations – half partisan and half nonpartisan – so they can continue activating their communities by supporting them with issues that affect their families daily like clean water, air, education, housing, medical care, workers' rights, and much more.
And, CD 22 is one of the most flippable congressional districts in the country and the poorest district in California. The organizers need our support to energize voters by working in the neighborhoods, helping solve problems and demonstrating that through collective action, change can happen.
There is no cost to attend the event and all donations raised go directly to the groups we support.

And that’s it! More to come soon,
Jess (and Andrea who helps with state newsletters)
What is going on with Newsome? I haven't seen any official comments from his office about what happened in San Diego, at least on any of the social media platforms. It's concerning. I don't want the tv/msm news though, so maybe I missed it?
Done! Always happy for CA action items!
