Chop Wood, Carry CA 2/15 ☀️
Hey, Team CA!
Great news!
At the end of January, a group of 20 California legislators introduced AB 1999, which will stop the CPUC from hitting ratepayers with an outrageously high Utility Tax. This is largely thanks to the public pressure they’ve been getting from people like you. Your letters, phone calls, letters to the editor, and public meetings have been tremendously important in getting us this far. NICE WORK!!
AB 1999 is simple. It caps the Utility Tax at $10/month and restricts it from increasing any more than inflation. This reverts the law back to the ways things were before 2022, when the utilities got lawmakers to uncap the Utility Tax.
The bill is not perfect, but it is a good start. One loophole must be removed, to ensure that the bill applies to all rate plans, and not just some. This will prevent the CPUC from any shenanigans down the road.
But the bill is a great start, and needs momentum, because utility lobbyists and their allies are pushing hard for your legislator not to support AB 1999.
Can you help pass AB 1999 by taking a quick action? Simply call your Assemblymember and urge them to co-author AB 1999!

Here's an example of what to say:
My name is ____. I live in ____. I want to urge [Representative] to co-author AB 1999, the bill to repeal the Utility Tax. Your constituents are counting on you! Thanks.
That’s it! That’s the ask.
More soon! Go solar!
